Elena Walch, Trentino - Alto Adige
More austere than the Villa Gresti from San Leonardo, Elena's Reserve Merlot is very-well defined - lean and green (but not mean), there is a refreshing herbaceous edge to the complex fruit and spice at the wine's core.
The Elena Walch estate
One of the torch-bearing wine producers in Alto-Adige, Elena Walch collected tre bicchieri awards for both red and white wines in 2007, and her Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay continue to set high standards for the region. The Estate also has a wonderful restaurant in the heart of its Castel Ringberg vineyard, which is as good a place as any to taste the wines alongside local delicacies.
