Villa Sparina, Piedmont
The estate’s and arguably the region’s top white – a lightly-barriqued selction of Villa Sparina’s best grapes from 40-year old vines in the beautiful Monterotondo vineyard which also see a year’s bottle ageing before being released. Almost nutty in its salty and mineral intensity on the palate, flavours of apricots, spicy apples and wildflower honey are preceeded on the nose by aromas of lemon rind, grapefruit and caramel. A real mouthful and long on the finish.
The Villa Sparina estate
Owned by the Moccagatta family, this fantastic estate regularly produces the finest expressions of the Cortese and Barbera grapes in the area and can now promote its wines through its Michelin-starred restaurant La Gallina and Ostelliere, its boutique hotel, both situated in its sumptous grounds.
